Today, it’s easier to achieve a set of pearly whites thanks to a wide array of services offered by a dentist. For instance, veneers not only help in changing the color, shape, and size of your teeth, but they also help in fixing chips, cracks, and gaps. Teeth whitening through bleaching, on the other hand, is an easy way to transform the color of your natural teeth.
Both of these procedures are effective in giving you a white smile, though they do so in very different ways.
Veneers
Often called porcelain veneers, these are wafer-thin and custom-made shells made of tooth-colored materials. These are particularly designed to cover the front surface of your teeth, thus improving its appearance.
Veneers can be either made of porcelain or resin. Between the two, however, porcelain veneers are better in resisting stains and mimicking the light reflecting properties of your natural teeth. Of course, you’ll need to discuss with your dentist first on which material is best for you.
Bleaching
In-office teeth whitening or bleaching, on the other hand, makes use of peroxide-based bleaching agents. This procedure benefits those who have a tight schedule, as it enables you to get a brighter and whiter set of teeth faster. The most dramatic results, with your teeth getting three to eight shades whiter, often take several 30- to 60-minute in-office visits.
You may, however, opt to take bleaching at the comfort of your own home. Whether it’s tooth whitening strips and gels or tray-based tooth bleaching systems, both can give you the desired results, though its effects would only last for a short time.
Whatever procedure you choose, you can trust a dentist to give you that Hollywood-worthy smile you’ve always dreamed of.
